Understanding uses to shape spaces
01 / UNDERSTAND
Observe what is actually happening on site
Politopia investigates lived space from the residents’ perspective to reveal the ways in which large territories, neighborhoods or architectural space are used, the practices that take place there and the expectations of its residents – aspects that are often overlooked in conventional assessments.
Mapping of controversies, residents’ accounts, participatory photography, community-based surveys, atlases of land use...
02 / TRANSFORMING PROJECTS
To turn fieldwork knowledge into a basis for action.
Politopia supports local authorities, planners and design teams in translating intended uses into guidelines, scenarios and project choices. Public consultation thus becomes a genuine tool for design, planning and decision-making.
Usage scenarios, co-creation workshops, resident prototyping, usage-driven programming, collaborative design, augmented decision support
Poly : a prefix derived from the Greek 'polus' (meaning ‘many’), indicating multiplicity
Tópos : place, location, but also, in the plural, topoi: a wealth of themes and arguments
Pólis : city-state, a community of free and autonomous citizens
We don’t just collect feedback. We transform residents’ experiences into an understanding of the local area and into input for the project.
